I know it’s not just me and everyone has noticed, but I still gotta say, January was way too long a month. I’m not complaining though, because I’ve spent the whole month catching up on some book recommendations from friends. In January, I finally tried reading from my husband’s Kindle and really enjoyed it — I’ve only been reading novellas from it though.

So in January, I’ve read a total of 10 books! Wow, I think that’s the most I’ve read in a month in a long time and I’m really happy about it.

The first book I read this month is The New Year’s Party by Daniel Hurst which I enjoyed quite a bit, especially the twist at the end. But overall, it was just an okay read for me. I gave it a 3 out of 5 stars. I’ve also posted my review on the blog if you haven’t seen it yet.

The second book I’ve read is Chef’s Kiss by Jarrett Melendez which was a very cute graphic novel. It was filled with recipes and wholesome romance that I craved for as I haven’t read romance in quite a long time. I rated it 4 stars!

Another book that I’ve read in January was The Secret Lives of Introverts: Inside Our Hidden World by Jenn Granneman. It’s my first non-fiction read of the year, and if you’ve been following me, you might have noticed that I don’t read a lot of self-helps, but this one was quite the book for me! I really enjoyed reading this. Read my review here!

I was also able to get back to reading manhwa/webtoon! It’s such a delight because Melvina’s Therapy turned out to be the best comeback to webtoon. I really enjoyed it as it had that horror manga vibe with the art. I wrote a review here.

The fifth book that I read in January is I’m a Therapist, and My Patient is In Love with a Pedophile: 6 Patient Files from Prison (Dr. Harper Therapy, #2). Ever since I read that first book, I have become attached to the characters in this series. It was such a fun reading experience! I loved this second book more than the first, I think. Check out my review!

Another book that I was able to get through was a book that I bought from BBW (Big Bad Wolf), The Ex by Alafair Burke, which meant that a lot of members from our book club also bought a copy during the sale! We decided to do a buddy read and while most of us thought that it was just an okay novel, we all agreed that the audiobook was fun to listen to! Here’s my review.

As I’ve mentioned in the introduction of this post, January was meant for catching up with friends’ recommendations and one of those books is Sour Candy by Patrick Kealan Burke. I must say that this is one of my favorite reads this year so far! It gave me all the creeps, and honestly, I also pity what happened to the protagonist. I found myself rooting for him throughout the book. Find out what I think and my rating here!

I have also finished reading my true crime read which is American Demon: Eliot Ness and the Hunt for America’s Jack the Ripper by Daniel Stashower. This, I was disappointed about. I was hoping that this would focus more on the murders than the political side of things, but it turned out differently. I gave it a 3 out 5 stars. Here’s my review.

The second to the last book that I was able to read in January is Woom by Duncan Ralston. This is another recommendation that I’ve been seeing around our book club, and to be honest, I didn’t know what to think about this. Haha It’s very unique, but the ending was crazy. Check out my review.

The tenth and last book I read in January is A Boy Possessed by Jon Athan. This is an author that I’ve been eyeing for quite a while! I enjoyed reading this book, but I guess the ending was kind of abrupt. I felt like I would have liked it even more if things ended differently. I also wrote a review for this!
