Top 15 Book Series on my Backlist

20200921_104006_0000

I really enjoy making bookish lists recently, so today I’m talking about the top 10 series on my backlist. This is going to be one of the most embarrassing posts I’ll ever do because, omg, self, why have you not read these yet?! Haha Also, take note that when I say backlist, I meant book series that I’ve listed as Want-to-Read from 2010 to 2017. I know, I’m really bad at catching up with all the great books! So without further ado, let’s dive right in (Please don’t judge me. 😂):

The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare
Listed as Want-to-Read 2010

I know, I know. Cassandra Clare is one of my all-time favorite authors and it’s such an embarrassment that The Mortal Instruments series is the only series that I’ve finished reading from all her Shadowhunter novels! I’m doing something about this, though, as I’m already halfway through Clockwork Prince!

The Dark Artifices by Cassandra Clare
Listed as Want-to-Read 2013

After The Infernal Devices, I’ll start with this. My goal is to catch up until the The Last Hours by the end of next year! There are so many things going on in my personal life right now, but hopefully I can still push through with this goal.

The Eldest Curse by Cassandra Clare
Listed as Want-to-Read 2019

Of course, after the first two series above, I’m also going to read this one! I’m so excited to dive into this series because it was mentioned numerous times in The Infernal Devices series! Hehe I also have to say that I absolutely love the cover of the second book. I heard a third book is coming to cap off this series which is The Black Volume of the Dead.

The Last Hours by Cassandra Clare
Listed as Want-to-Read 2015

I forgot to mention in the above Cassandra Clare series that I own all of these books already! Haha I’m a trash for Cassandra Clare books and I buy them as soon as they are available in my local bookstores. And the covers of The Last Hours books are so damn pretty! My favorite is the first one, but I can’t wait to get a glimpse of the cover of the third book!

The Lunar Chronicles by Marrisa Meyer
Listed as Want-to-Read 2013

Jeez, this is also one of the series that I’ve completed my copies of but wasn’t able to read. Honestly, my mom and aunt are waaay ahead of me when it comes to these series. They’ve borrowed my copies and have already finished The Infernal Devices, The Dark Artifices, and this one. Am I for real? Well, yes. Haha

Legend by Marie Lu
Listed as Want-to-Read 2013

I heard so many good things about this series and I’ve always meant to read it, it’s just that I keep getting distracted by so many other good books! I’ll definitely get to these books soon enough.

Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi
Listed as Want-to-Read 2013

The Shatter Me series have been such a controversial series as it added two more books in the original trilogy. I remember everyone loving the first three books and turned out not wanting to finish the next two, but I would still love to give it a try!

The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater
Listed as Want-to-Read 2013

This is one of the series that I’ve been dying to read ever since I heard of it, but it was too hard to find copies in my local bookstore and back then, I didn’t even know how to order online or make special orders. I started collecting all the books in this series last year, so I’m excited to dive into this as well.

Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo
Listed as Want-to-Read 2013

I’m really disappointed that I still haven’t read this series and it’s now on Netflix! Huhu So I couldn’t join in the fun of the Netflix series because I wanted to read the books first. I’ll get to that soon enough, I swear.

The Young Elites by Marie Lu
Listed as Want-to-Read 2014

Marie Lu has honestly become one of the most well-known authors when it comes to YA fantasy. I haven’t read any of her books, but I have read some of her short stories and I know that her writing as well as the world-building in her novels are very powerful.

Chaos Walking by Patrick Ness
Listed as Want-to-Read 2014

Here’s one that I have always been curious about, I think I’ve heard so many praises for this book from all the booktubers that I follow since 2013. I got copies of these just last year and I am so excited to read them.

Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson
Listed as Want-to-Read 2014

Ah, I’ve heard this series from Regan of Peruse Project on Youtube years ago! I’ve always wanted to get these UK covers because they are so aesthetically pretty, but they are just way too expensive here in my country and most often than not, we have to preorder just to get them. So I just bought the US covers (which I think some people call the YA covers).

I’ve always wanted to read this and so many books have been published within this world that I’m actually starting to feel anxious about diving into it. Haha It’s really intimidating! I’ve read six to seven-book series before, sure, but this is high fantasy and I know that it will blow my mind. I’m excited nonetheless, I just gotta find the right time and mood to get into this.

The Kingkiller Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss
Listed as Want-to-Read 2017

This is another series that I kept hearing from Regan way back, and the plot sounds really interesting! I don’t own copies of these books yet, but I heard that there is supposedly a third book coming but it doesn’t have a date yet.

The Trials of Apollo by Rick Riordan
Listed as Want-to-Read 2016

I binge-read both The Percy Jackson and the Olympians (PJO) + The Heroes of Olympus (HOO) series back in 2017 and adored the world that Rick Riordan created for us. Just like the series on this list, my PJO and HOO books have been sitting on my shelves for years before I finally picked them up. Sometimes, it’s just about finding the right mood to read a specific book or book series.

This world will hold a special place in my heart, because it got me through a really tough time career-wise. I waited for the last book in the Trials of Apollo series to come out before finally buying all the books in the series. Too bad, though, because my copies of this series don’t match in size. Haha It’s really bothering me, but I’m still excited to get to this. I’m sure it will be a fun time.

Pandava by Roshani Chokshi
Listed as Want-to-Read 2017

When I’ve had too much high fantasy or YA, I always go with some middle-grades because they are such light and fun reads. I bought a copy of the first book in this series to try it out first before getting the succeeding copies. It has become part of my reading process to get the first book in a series for authors that I haven’t tried yet, just to check if I will like it or not. The exception to this is if the series is sold as a set on secondhand shops because they are usually very cheap.

This series piqued my interest because of the mythology theme. I have always been fascinated by mythology of different kinds. It confuses me most of the time because there are so many gods that I have yet to know and read of, but my confusion doesn’t hinder the fact that I want to learn more about other mythologies other than Greek.

Collating all these series into one post brought me back to all those years ago when all I do during school breaks is either read, watch booktube, or add books to my Goodreads TBR. I honestly started asking myself, “Has it really been that long?” Pre-adulting days are way better! Haha

How about you? Any thoughts on these series? What’s the top series on your backlist?
