Hi, everyone! There’s not much that happened in my life in April. Everything has been a routine for a year now, and I just long for the days when we can at least go out on random coffee or lunch dates without having to worry about getting sick. These days, I just try to get through the day by working, watching random clips, browsing through Instagram, and reading. Sometimes, I exercise, but the heat in the Philippines right now is making it hard to do so.

Anyway, I think I’m finally getting over my reading slump! In April, I managed to read two books and two mangas. It’s the most I’ve read since the year started, I guess. I’m also really happy that most of the books I’ve been reading these past couple of months are 4 to 5-star reads! I think that the lowest I’ve rated so far is three, and that’s really something — truly quality over quantity. ♡

The first book that I finished this month is Frankly in Love by David Yoon and I think that this book is so underrated. It deserves a lot of hype from readers! It’s a really cute coming-of-age novel that tackles topics like racism, immigrants, and the likes. It’s very relatable since I’m Asian myself. I wrote a review about it, I’d be happy if you would check that out too. I gave this a solid 4 out of 5 stars!

The next book that I finished is Clockwork Angel (The Infernal Devices, #1) by Cassandra Clare. If you’re following me on Instagram, you may have already read that I put off reading this trilogy for a very long time. I got side-tracked the past 10 years with college, graduating, and finally working that I only got to squeeze in contemporary novels as they are much easier to read without committing to a series. I’m so glad that I’m finally reading it and going back to the Shadow World brings back so much nostalgia to when I first read City of Bones! Having finished the first book in this trilogy, I’ve come to realize that I see myself more in Tessa Gray than Clary. And I have come to love her character as the story progresses. I haven’t reviewed this yet, because I wanted to review the whole series. So watch out for that in the next few months. I rated this book 5 out of 5 stars!

Another one that I finished this month is Monsoon Mansion by Cinelle Barnes. I listened to the audiobook of this via Anyplay FM and I really enjoyed listening to Cinelle herself. I honestly find her voice very lyrical and cute despite the plot of her memoir. I also learned a lot about what was happening in the Philippines after the Marcos regime. I rated it 3.75 out of 5 stars!

The last two books that I was able to squeeze in this month are mangas: Kaguya-sama: Love is War Vol. 4 and My Hero Academia Vol. 1. I don’t really give detailed reviews on each volume as there are so many volumes in one series, but I would like to mention that I really enjoyed reading these two. I rated Kaguya-Sama: Love is War a 3 stars while My Hero Academia got a 3.5 out of 5 stars from me.

How about you? Did you discover a new favorite book or author this month?

    • Thank you! I really enjoyed the first book in the series. May will be a busy month for me, but hopefully I can squeeze in some reading to make progress in the second one! 🙂
