Title: Please Pick Me

Author: Reina Regina

Publication Date: November 11, 2020

Number of Pages: 124

Publisher: Moonchild Press Publishing

Genre: Poetry

Synopsis:

In a garden of a thousand other volumes, my little yellow book with its earnest plea and hopeful flowers on the cover sits waiting for you to pick it up. It’s got a heart it wants to give away.

These haikus, poems, and prose pieces are about

the miracle of being wanted back by someone we want,
the desperation of hoping they’ll fight harder when they waver,
the rawness of seeking reassurance that we are loved as we are, and
the tenderness we feel when we’re sending love out to others

—all those moments when we are making our need to be accepted plain and praying, please pick me.

This book was born after twenty-six years of learning that it’s okay to want to be wanted, that vulnerability is merely throwing open the gateway to honest connections, and that fighting to be loved the way you deserve is bravery and not weakness.

I hope you open it. I hope it invites you to be open too.

Personal Thoughts:

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

I was given an e-ARC of this book by Reina Regina in exchange for an honest review.
“…if a reader lives a thousand lives, then the thousand heroines in me would gladly belong in a thousand happily-ever-afters with the thousand heroes in you.”
– It Is Written, Reina Regina

First of all, I would like to thank Reina for entrusting me an ARC of her first ever book. I was so thrilled when she told me and I have nothing but love and support for thing beautiful girl inside-out. I truly hope nothing but the best for her and her work.

I have fallen in love with this book in so many ways! I know that I will love from the start, but I never thought that I could relate to almost all of the poems as much as I did. I loved how it points out that self-love is important and that nothing in the world can stop you once you’ve found that love for yourself.

To be honest, the part that was 100% relatable to me was the Roots section of the book. It hit me so hard in a really good way; made me realize that I am still my own person no matter my roots, no matter what they expect and who they want me to be. I am my own person, and I should be the one to decide my future. I am my own person, and I need to stop letting these people hold me down.

“She’s art and science, faith and magic,
all wrapped up in one.
And you may see one side of her at a time,
you may insist she stay on one path at a time;
but she is all of those things,
always, inseparably.
ANd what path she takes
is not up to you.”
