Another month flew by way too fast and we’re now down to the last four months of 2020. I hope we all make the most of the last few months of the year even if most of us are stuck at home. Times like this can really take a toll on one’s mental health, but I realized that we can also learn from it and that there are still so many things to be thankful for despite this chaos. 

Personally, 2020 have been an amazing reading year because, really, what else can we do when we’re quarantined? I am just so grateful that I have all these books to help me stay sane and preoccupied. It reminds me of those days in elementary when all I have as friends are books. Throughout the years, books, may it be fiction or non-fiction, have been there for me and keep me company and I am so grateful that I developed this immense love for reading because, really, what would I be without them?

August had not been different from any other months as I have managed to acquire a lot of books again. My reason being that most of these books had been on my Goodreads TBR for years, if not decades, and the quarantine honestly helped me save money as I do not go anywhere to buy clothes, eat at restaurants, etc. So despite me buying a lot of books, I still manage to save some bucks which I know I won’t be able to do once we go back to our normal routines. So for the books that I got:

I am so excited to read all of them, especially Kendare Blake’s Anna series as it has been on my Goodreads shelf ever since it was release back in 2011! Also, reading The Licanius Trilogy by James Islington is one of my attempts to read more high/epic fantasy series and I am so pumped.

So what did I read in August? If you guys remember, I previously mentioned during the start of the month that I am joining two readathons. Well, that was quite ambitious of me because I only managed to read one book for each readathon. Lesson learned, I guess. Haha I’m still so proud that I did.

The first book that I’ve read this month was Flyte (Septimus Heap, #2) by Angie Sage. This is the second book in the Septimus Heap series which I started reading in June. I was in a bit of a slump in July, so I didn’t get into this then. So I started reading it in August for the Tome Topple readathon, and it’s as magical as the first book. The adventures still kept me in awe and I am really getting attached to the characters. Septimus’ character-development was also a stand-out in this one. I can’t wait to dive into the next book in the series.

Another book that I’ve read in August was Dekada ’70 by Lualhati Bautista which is a political historical fiction novel focusing on the struggles of a family against the age of repression of human rights caused by the imposed Martial Law. I’ve read this not just because of Wikathon but also to educate me more on the events that had happened during those Martial Law years. I really enjoyed reading this as it was such a fast-paced book and the narrator’s self-discovery and how she deals with her daily life during that time was really interesting. I rated it 5 of 5 stars on Goodreads. I will probably write a more detailed review soon!

I also read another volume of Kaguya-sama: Love is War by Aka Akasaka which has always been a delight for me. It’s such a light manga and very cute and funny. I was also able to squeeze in two volumes of One-Punch Man and one volume of Cardcaptor Sakura. Manga has been a great part of my 2020 as I have been devouring a lot of them (and anime too) as I’ve mentioned in one of my previous posts. 

I was also able to read Ever After by Olivia Vieweg which is an ARC that I acquired from NetGalley. It was an okay read for me, but not something that have stuck in me. It’s about two girls who partner up to survive an apocalypse. I will write my review about it in a separate post as I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
