This had been sitting on my TBR since 2022-ish and I finally decided to read it for Winterween 2025! For those of you who aren’t familiar with Winterween, it’s a readathon hosted by Gabbyreads on Youtube, so feel free to check her out for more details because another readathon similar to this will happen in the summertime as well!
Anyway, I’ve read another book from this author a couple of years back called Mukbang Princess and actually really liked it. It was a short but immensely weird book but the ending was so unexpected that I had to rate it 4 stars. So I’m really looking forward to read more of this author’s works.
This story opens with this man named Xavier driving a stolen car and he has just escaped prison. The car that he stole ended up having engine/gas tank problems as it stopped in the middle of nowhere. He literally doesn’t see anything except for trees. He then decided to walk around the woods until he stumbled upon a house that he thought was abandoned and things just started getting crazy from there on out.
I read this in one sitting because it was such a short read and also very unputdownable. This book is intensely gross, maddening, and freaking insane. It’s definitely not for the faint of heart. I kept turning the pages because I wanted to know what will happen to this guy Xavier after everything that went down in the story. You can say that I was very invested because I want to find out if reading this until the end is going to be worth it and I’m glad to say that the author gave me the ending that I felt this character deserved.
I was almost sure that this was going to be a 1 star because this main character wasn’t very likable and he’s very evil, but that ending made me raise it to three stars.
𝑵𝒐𝒕𝒆: Please check the trigger warnings and the author’s note before reading this. Also, please keep in mind that this is an extreme horror novella.
This sounds really good but appreciate the warning, I’ve never read an extreme horror novella before so don’t know how I’d take it 🤔. It sounds so good tho, I’m really tempted! 🤣 Anyway, great review! ✨️
