I’ve been a Goodreads member since 2011 and through the years, it has been my #1 source of book recommendations and new releases. I also use it to track my annual reading goals and number of read books in my lifetime. Aside from that, I also use it to organize titles by genre, author, etc. I know Goodreads may sometimes feel like a “temptation” when it comes to adding new titles to our TBRs, but it has really been helpful when it comes to organizing my books, both virtually and physically.

What is the highest-rated book that you gave a low rating? (Sort your books in Goodreads based on Average Ratings and find the highest-rated book you gave a low rating)

The average rating for this book is 3.09 and I gave it a 2 stars. I remember that I was given an e-ARC of this book and though it was a graphic novel, I found it really hard to get through, mainly because I couldn’t seem to connect with the characters. It promised a zombie apocalypse story, and it just didn’t live up to my expectations.

What is the lowest-rated book that you gave a high rating? (Sort your books in Goodreads based on Average Ratings, in reverse order, and find the lowest-rated book you gave a high rating)

Eleven Minutes is one of my favorite Paulo Coelho books! Its average rating is 3.70 and I gave it a 5 out of 5 stars! This book really taught me a lot of things that I didn’t know and let me see a perspective I have never thought of viewing before.

What is the most popular book you disagree with the average rating? (Sort your books in Goodreads based on number of Ratings, and find the first book you disagree with the average rating)

Omg, I know! This is still the most controversial rating that I have on Goodreads to date because I DNF-ed it and gave it a 1-star rating. Sorry! I don’t think that there’s anything wrong with the book given that the Red Queen trilogy is beloved by many readers, but I just didn’t connect with all the characters as I thought I would. I read this with a couple of friends and most of us didn’t quite like it, too, and we were so disappointed because I remember that we were actually looking forward to the release of this book.

This is one of the contemporary novels that I don’t see around often, and it makes me sad because it’s really good and deserves the same hype as Anna and the French Kiss and Roger’s Epic Detour. It’s fluffy, funny, and very adorable. I also love the band setting/theme in this novel. I gave it 4 stars!

Choose two books that have an average rating of 3/5 stars but you gave a higher rating

These are two books on my read list that have a 3.7 to 3.8. Both of them are 4-star ratings for me. The River Piedra I Sat Down and Wept is my most favorite Paulo Coelho book of all time because it holds so much truth and life lessons. I have yet to finish the Caster Chronicles series, but with the way things ended in book 1, I am assuming that it will be one of my favorites.

 I don’t give a lot of one to two-star ratings, so I’m repeating Red Queen for this one, but won’t be explaining anymore as I’ve mentioned it in an earlier question. On the other hand, Timeline has a 3.85 average rating and I only gave it 1 star because, yes, you’ve guessed it: I DNF-ed it. The synopsis honestly caught my interest, but the book itself was dragging. I got to 200 pages before finally deciding that it won’t work for me.

The Red Pyramid has a 4.08 average rating and I only gave it 3 stars (which, honestly, isn’t that bad!) because I actually had a hard time reading about Egyptian myth. It isn’t Rick Riordan’s fault, of course, but having to constantly search for the gods and goddesses mentioned in the book lessened my enjoyment of the book. I will continue on with the series though! I loved the To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before trilogy, but the third book was my least favorite and I only gave it 3 stars. It’s average rating on Goodreads is 4.09.

Do you tend to agree or disagree with Goodreads’ average rating? Do you use Goodreads as a guide for books you want to read?

While there are a few times when I don’t agree with Goodreads’ average rating, most of their average ratings are aligned with mine. It’s also my go-to website when I’m looking for new books to read. So to answer the second question, yes, I definitely use Goodreads as a guide for books I want to read, the recommendations or Readers Also Enjoyed section is absolutely helpful when looking for a similar book to read.
