Hi, everyone! ♡ I am back, I know you haven’t noticed because of my scheduled posts but I took a break from blogging from December 23 to January 3 because I didn’t want to spend my holidays pressuring myself to write new entries. Before December 23, I was able to schedule a couple of posts for when I am gone, but I failed to include my wrap up for December. I thought of logging in to write this earlier than today, but my holiday break didn’t turn out as planned and I’ve been really stressed out because of some personal reasons. It’s just been crazy! Thankfully, I was able to get some rest before we go back to work and to get my mind off things, I’ve been watching movies, anime, and series. I’ve also been reading a few pages/chapters a day, but not as much as I’d like. I was able to finish two books in December, though.

First, I was able to finally finish The Girl With All the Gifts by M.R. Carey! I was kind of disappointed that I didn’t like it as much as I thought I would. I’ve had my hopes up for this because most of my friends loved it. I didn’t hate it as I gave a 3 out of 5 stars, but I just thought that some of the scenes were unnecessary in the story. I know there’s a movie, so I might watch that too.

My next read was There’s Someone Inside Your House by Stephanie Perkins and, boy, oh boy, did I enjoy this book. I know that Stephanie Perkins novels are mostly in the Contemporary Romance genre that’s why this thriller also has romance in it, but one of my favorite types of thrillers are those that revolve around high school students + murder! It sounds crazy that I enjoyed reading a book about some high school students being murdered but it’s just a fast read for me and I honestly couldn’t stop turning the pages. I gave it a 3.5 to 4 out of 5 stars!

That was all the books I read in December — I am currently reading My True Love Gave To Me which is a collection of twelve holiday stories edited by Stephanie Perkins! The stories are really cute, but I’m still halfway through it. I’m kind of disappointed in myself for not finishing this in December, but I’m not dwelling on it because I’ve been going back forth to the hospital the past two weeks and it’s been really stressful.

I also started The Fifth Season (Broken Earth, #1) by N.K. Jemisin yesterday and I’m buddy-reading it with some of bookstagram friends. I can’t say much about it yet because I’m still in chapter 2, but second-person POVs are just weird for me as I don’t think I’ve ever read a book in second-person POVs before? N.K. Jemisin’s writing, though, is easier to read that I thought. So I’m really looking forward to loving this series!

As for the books that I bought in December, I was lucky enough to score some secondhand books online which are in very pristine condition and are in hardcovers! I always prefer paperbacks instead of hardcovers because hardcovers are heavy and tend to fall on my face whenever I’m reading at night. Haha But these are such a steal and I couldn’t resist! The only one that’s not secondhand in this haul is The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune as I bought it from my local bookstore’s online shop as a Christmas gift to myself.

What about you? What’s your favorite December read? What did you get for yourself in December?
