It’s been almost two weeks since July started, but I have been quite busy with personal stuff lately that I didn’t have the time to write my June wrap-up. Anyway, as I always say, better late than never! *wink* I also bought quite a lot of new books in June because of the Big Bad Wolf event that ran from June 24 to July 3. I got so many brand new amazing titles at a low price! I’m so excited to read most of them because some of the titles that I got had been sitting on my Goodreads TBR shelf for a long time now.

The first book that I read in June was Mommy Dearest by Willow Rose. It’s my first Willow Rose and I really enjoyed it. It’s a short story about a couple who are about to get married, and was being visited by the guy’s mother for vacation. As the days pass by, the woman realizes that she will never get along with her future mother-in-law for reasons that you’ll find out when you read this book. I gave it 4 stars.

The second book that I read in the month of June was Dark Matter by Blake Crouch and it’s one of my best reads so far this year! I don’t know even know what I was doing with my life and why it took me so long to read this book. It’s just so good, I couldn’t put it down. I rated it 5 stars.

The next book that I read was I’m Not Sam by Jack Ketchum and Lucky McKee. I’ve been meaning to read The Girl Next Door by Jack Ketchum, but I’m still waiting for the right mood to arrive before I pick it up and I think that I’m Not Sam was a good kickstart from that author. I gave it 4 stars.

I was also able to get through my non-fiction read for this month earlier than expected, which was My Lovely Wife in the Psych Ward by Mark Lukach. This was such a heart-breaking yet touching read. It’s a memoir and told from the perspective of the husband, Mark Lukach himself. It’s about how they went through the harshness and challenges of life, but successfully got through every bit of it. Not in the easiest way, but overcame all of it just the same. I gave it 3.5 stars.

I also read another Jon Athan novel which was Am I Beautiful? I enjoyed this and really appreciated the author’s modern take on the Japanese urban legend, Kuchisake-onna. It got a bit dragging in the middle, but I definitely enjoyed. I rated it 3.5 stars.

The sixth book that I read was Magnum Opus by Caitlin Marceau. I discovered this while browsing through Goodreads and immediately piqued my attention, so I gave it a try and I’m glad I did because it was such a good read. I gave it 4 stars.

Another short read that I squeezed in this month was My Mother’s Eyes by Jeremy Ray and it wasn’t what I expected it to be, to be honest. But it was good read and though I couldn’t exactly say that this is a tear-jerker, it’s still a harrowing read in its own way. I gave it 3.5 stars.

The eighth book that I read was The Last House on Needless Street by Catriona Ward. This book has been sitting on my shelf for months, and I’m glad that I finally read it. To be honest, I almost DNF-ed this during the first few chapters because it was so confusing, but I’m glad I pushed through because this was such an amazing read. I never expected nor predicted the ending! I gave it 4 stars.

The second to the last book that I read in June was Nibble, Nibble, Crunch by Willow Rose and I’m sad to say that I did not enjoy this. It was a short read, but it took me so much time to finish it because I found it a bit dragging at times and the protagonist annoyed me so much. I gave it 2 stars.

The last book that I was able to finish in the month of June was The Babysitter: My Summers with a Serial Killer by Liza Rodman. This was a heart-wrenching read for me as I can totally relate to Liza and her relationship with her mother. I rated it 4 stars.
