Synopsis:

From the moment Lucy met Diana, she was kept at arm’s length. Diana is exquisitely polite, but Lucy knows, even after marrying Oliver, that they’ll never have the closeness she’d been hoping for.

But who could fault Diana? She was a pillar of the community, an advocate for social justice, the matriarch of a loving family. Lucy had wanted so much to please her new mother-in-law.

That was ten years ago. Now, Diana has been found dead, leaving a suicide note. But the autopsy reveals evidence of suffocation. And everyone in the family is hiding something…

From the bestselling author of The Family Next Door comes a new page-turner about that trickiest of relationships.

Personal Thoughts:

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

This is my first Sally Hepworth novel and it definitely won’t be my last! If you’re one of my bookish friends, you’d know that I’m a sucker for titles with family members in it and this totally got my attention when I first saw it online. 😂

In this novel we follow two POVs: Diana, the mother-in-law, and Lucy, the daughter-in-law, as we figure out what actually happened to Diana. I really enjoyed the alternate POVs and the switching of timelines as it was pulled off perfectly.

I honestly didn’t expect the twist at the end. I had my fair share of guesses, but nothing led me to come up with what was revealed at the end. Overall, this was such a pleasant read and I’m looking forward to more of Sally Hepworth’s works.
